Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

We collect account and contact information, identity and verification data, property and project submissions, transaction records, communications, device information, usage data and approximate location. Payment card details are generally handled by payment providers rather than stored by Shelterfair.

2. How we use information

We use information to provide and secure the marketplace, verify users, review listings, process payments, send service messages, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, improve the service and provide marketing where permitted.

3. Legal bases

Depending on location, processing is based on contract, consent, legitimate interests and compliance with legal obligations. In Rwanda, we process personal data in accordance with Law No. 058/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy.

4. International transfers

Travellers and international users understand that information may be processed in Rwanda and by service providers in other countries. We use contractual and operational safeguards appropriate to the transfer and applicable law.

5. Sharing

We share data with relevant property partners, payment and email providers, hosting and security vendors, professional advisers and public authorities when legally required. We do not sell personal information.

6. Retention and security

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purposes, disputes, fraud prevention and legal obligations. We apply access controls, encryption in transit and other proportionate safeguards, but no online service is risk-free.

7. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection, and may withdraw consent. You may also complain to Rwanda's competent data protection authority or your local regulator.

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication, security and theme preferences. Future analytics or advertising cookies will be subject to any consent required by law.
